UNICEF Child Friendly Spaces at the FIFA FAN PARKS
(May – August 2010)


Child Friendly Spaces at 4 x FIFA Fan Parks:
A Child Friendly Space was created at 4 of the FIFA Fan Parks (Soweto, Sandton, Nelspruit and Port Elizabeth). This space was sponsored by UNICEF and staffed by Child Protection Agencies located within those areas (Childline, Child Welfare, Olive Leaf Foundation and World Vision). We were commissioned as Event Managers to create a Child Friendly Space and manage the different organizations and their contributions throughout the Soccer World Cup 2010.   

Tagging Programme: A volunteering tagging programme to adults with children at all entrances to FIFA Fan Parks. Adults who bring children to the park will be encouraged to receive a wrist band for themselves and their child. The wrist bands with corresponding number will execrate the speed of reunification, should child become lost. This programme was very successful and has been recommended to the Brazilin Soccer World Cup Committee.

Childline Gauteng (August – December 2010)

High Five Campaign

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is an international campaign. It takes place every year from 25 November to 10 December.
During this time, the South African Government runs a 16 Days of Activism Campaign to make people aware of the negative impact of violence on women and children and to act against abuse. We are firmly committed to lead a coordinated effort to sustain the campaign into its next decade.
Every year, government, civil-society organisations and the business sector work together to broaden the impact of the campaign. By supporting this campaign, thousands of South Africans have also helped to increase awareness of abuse and build support for victims and survivors of abuse.
Activation & Roll out for November & December 2010
The HIGH FIVE WALL were setup for patron willing to participate and support the cause by paying a R5 to imprint there hand print in support with a HIGH FIVE and message. Alternatively participation was done by purchasing a white ribbon to be worn during the 16 days in show of solidarity and support of Our Women & Children.

Comedy Show

Childline Gauteng invited the public to celebrate their inner child - the imagination, wonder, delight and giggles at our ‘Just Laugh’s Comedy Showcase’ hosted at Gallagher Estate on the 2nd November 2010.

The GP Child Campaign used this opportunity, to shine a light onto Childline Gauteng, and their services they offer to 660,000 children on an annual basis. We used this event to strengthen the back bone of this organization by increasing the current support network that is the “Big Friends to the children”.

The Just Laugh’s Comedy Showcase allows Childline Gauteng to show the general public that there is much light, love, happiness and laugher throughout their facilities and the children that need our assistance.


Life Diamonds Foundation (Feb 2011 – Present)

Launch of Foundation

Life Diamond Cutting Works Pty (Ltd) is embracing 2011 and their social responsibility by establishing the “Life Diamonds Foundation,” which was launched on the 11th February 2011, at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The first Charity earmarked as a receiver of this trust is the Tapologo Hospice, located in Rustenburg.

The Best of Life

At a glittering Fundraiser marking the official launch of the Life Diamonds Foundation, royalty, industry powerhouses, local designers, musicians, local bands, the press and celebrities gathered together united by one goal.  The objective of the evening was to raise funds for the Tapologo HIV/Aids Hospice, founded by Time Magazine honouree and nominated humanitarian, Bishop Kevin Dowling.

In an evening highlighting the Best of Life, featuring local R&B singer Loyiso Bala and recently launched rock, funk and soul foursome - Son of 1000; together with six of South Africa’s most iconic designers - all renowned for their collaborative work with crafters in all nine provinces of SA under the Fashion Fusion label – Amanda Laird Cherry, Black Coffee, Ephymol, Two, Guillotine and Vesselina Pentcheva – guests were treated to a fusion of fashion, dance, fine dining and sublime music and rocking entertainment.

Foundation Chairman, Gill Goshen reiterated the need for companies to work together to meet and beat the major socio-economic challenges facing our country.  Goshen went on to state “...the importance of a company’s corporate social responsibility cannot rest at the entrance but must extend right down the value chain”.  This philosophy forms an integral part of the Life Diamonds operating policy where hearing and speech impaired persons make up the local workforce in the cutting, polishing and grading of diamonds.  This support is but one example of the Company’s commitment to beneficiation on the Southern African continent.
